My Affiliate Tale- Keeping it real
I promised that I would keep everyone informed about my affiliate journey. So today I am giving an update on my failures and progress.
To start with, this is not as easy as everyone hopes it to be (at least not for me). It does take quite a bit of time to set up and get your site out there to the public. However, I still haven’t put any money into it other then the initial set up for the domain name ($13.99). So far I have stayed on track with not spending a lot of money and proving it could be done on a minimal budget. I just have to figure out how to set aside more time to focus. Not an easy task in the real world, but not an impossible task either. I guess it depends on how bad you want it. And I REALLY want it!
Okay. My Failures
I have tried to skip a few steps and push ahead to make this work quickly. That was clearly a bad idea because I had to go back, undo some things I have done, and then redo them correctly (like they showed me in Wealthy Affiliate). Jumping ahead is obviously wasted time in the long run. Not only did I waste time. I stressed myself out by skipping lessons and not knowing what to do or how to do it. I didn’t spend extra time proofreading my post ( more time wasted), which also cost me in the end.
I failed with being consistent as well. If you do not spend the time on you site with posting, adding pages and content, GoogleAdsense will not approve your site for their ads. They like to see a lot of activity. When you’re just starting out, you are your best source of activity. Again something I have learned painfully the hard way!
Due to my lack of time paying attention to detail and my lack of time spent researching topics in my niche, I have slowed down my own progress. RESEARCH is a MUST!
A word of advice here. I have stated multiple times that there is nothing in life worth more then your time. Please take the extra time and do things right the first time. I have spent a lot of time failing and advise you to not do the same.
Although I have only made $53.00 so far. That is a win in my eyes. This has been more of an educational journey so far, which is not at all a disappointment for me. With knowledge comes power. With power comes capability. I am confident that I am gaining knowledge, and I’m looking forward to the capabilities that are awaiting my future.
I am finding my way around building a website (even though I have stumbled and fallen a few times). I’ve gained confidence in my writing. Wealthy Affiliate and the community within have helped build a solid belief in myself and my abilities. Even my failures have turned into positive actions.
To be honest, I feel like making mistakes and learning from them is a major part of my progress. If it helps some one down the road in any way, then I’ve already accomplished one of my goals. My goals were to learn how to build my own online business with very little start up cost and to help other people do the same. People are starting to ask questions and visiting my site. So yes, I do feel like I am making progress.
My goals are the same as they were when I started. I just had to add another goal to the list. I have got to make more time! The most important lesson I think I have learned so far is that I need to be more consistent. It is going to take all the extra time I have to get this going and I feel like the pay-off will be more then I hoped for in the end.
So leave me a comment, suggestion or question. I promise to get back to you and I appreciate all the help I can get.
